McCain: Obama Will Be Unable to Protect America

Posted May 15, 08 5:48 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – John McCain today hit Barack Obama harder than ever, Talking Points Memo notes, saying the Democrat’s willingness to talk with Iran proves he “does not have the knowledge, the experience, the background to make the kind of judgments that are necessary to preserve this nation’s security.” Of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, McCain wondered, “What is it that he wants to talk about with him?”

A Daily Kos blogger, meanwhile, takes issue with McCain’s memory, laughing off the candidate’s assertion that Ronald Reagan “didn’t sit down in a negotiation with the religious extremists in Iran.” Writes existenz, “It's called the Iran-Contra Scandal”—and McCain “couldn’t have forgotten about” it. He sat in Congress even as the US traded arms to Tehran for the release of American hostages.
