(Newser) – Powerful Hollywood women are reorganizing after Hillary Clinton's failed presidential bid, turning their attention toward increasing the Democratic majority in the Senate. A fundraiser Sept. 27 could raise more than $1 million for candidates, and is being put together by the likes of Jane Fonda, Kate Capshaw, Penny Marshall, Daryl Hannah, Laura Dern, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The idea for Voices for a Senate Majority began with alums of the Reagan-era Hollywood Women’s Political Committee. The group has already pledged a minimum of $100,000 to each of a half-dozen Democratic challengers, including Minnesota’s Al Franken. Says one activist: “Everything now is ‘Obama, Obama, Obama,’ but we’re also concerned about the Senate, which is critically important no matter who wins the White House."
