(Newser) – A man working to publicize extravagant claims about Barack Obama—involving hard drug use, sex romps, and murder—has a voluminous rap sheet, including a forgery charge that earned him a 16-year jail sentence, Politico reports. Larry Sinclair is making an appearance today at the National Press Club in Washington to drum up attention for his story about the Democratic candidate.

Sinclair, whose original YouTube video has been viewed nearly 1 million times, has led “an itinerant life of small-time crime and bad checks, punctuated by stretches of jail time.” There is an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Colorado, from with he has sought release due to “severe spine injury and nerve damage” and being “terminally ill”—more claims that don’t appear to pass muster.
