33-year-old turns self in for brutal stabbings of French PhD pair

(Newser) – London authorities charged a homeless man today with the brutal murders of two French students, the Guardian reports. Nigel Edward Farmer, 33, is accused of stabbing the two a total of 243 times in a London flat June 29, and then setting the apartment on fire. Farmer was arrested after walking into a city police station early Monday.

(AP) - Seattle Mariners outfielder Greg Halman was stabbed to death in Rotterdam today, and his brother has been arrested as a suspect, Dutch police tell the AP . Police were called to a home in the wee hours of the morning, where they found Halman, 24, still bleeding but were unable to resuscitate him. His brother, 22, has been taken in for questioning, but has not yet been charged. "It will take some time to figure out what exactly happened," a police spokesman said. More»

(NEWSER) - A 76-year-old Boy Scout leader has died after being stabbed in the neck yesterday while taking another adult and two boys on a hike, reports AP . Police busted Shane Golitko, a 22-year-old man who lives close to the Indiana hiking trail where the unprovoked attack occurred. Golitko's mother called 911 just before the stabbing, saying he broke her arm and stabbed two dogs before walking to the trail where the Boy Scouts were walking, said investigators. (NEWSER) - A home-schooled 12-year-old Colorado boy described as "the sweetest kid" is in police custody following the fatal shooting of his deeply religious parents and the stabbing of two younger siblings. Stunned police are trying to piece together the bloody rampage inside the boy's home in the quiet community of Burlington. Charles Long, 50, and his 51-year-old wife, Marilyn, were found dead, and a brother and sister were in critical condition, reports the Denver Post . The suspect called 911 to report that three people had been shot. It wasn't clear who meant by a third victim, and officials didn't reveal if he claimed responsibility for the attack. More»
