(Newser) – Talk about change: John McCain is hosting celebrity rallies of his own while all the excitement has fizzled out of the Barack Obama campaign, EJ Dionne observes in the Washington Post. "It's clear that Obama has lost control of this campaign." His task, then, is "to remind Americans that the stakes in this election are far higher than the matter of who said what and when about Palin,” Dionne writes. “He isn't doing that.”
Instead, McCain has been controlling the agenda, “absurdly” claiming the mantle of the change candidate. Dionne argues that Obama should forget broadening the political map and focus on must-win states such as North Carolina. The Dem can’t “expect voters to know he’ll fight for them when they are not yet sure that he’s willing to stand up for himself,” Dionne writes.

Obama leads John McCain by 13,746 votes, with 40,000 uncounted, but Gary Bartlett says experience tells him there won't be an upset. More »
Nov 4, 08 7:00 PM CST The economy is the top issue for voters, today's exit polling confirmed, with 62% of those interviewed saying it was their No. 1 priority. Iraq was most important to 10%, and terrorism and health care were each named by 9%. For those most concerned with the economy, CNN said, more supported Barack Obama than John McCain. Nine out of 10 of voters interviewed said economic conditions in the country are “not so good” or “poor," MSNBC reports More »
Nov 4, 08 5:46 PM CST An Obama campaign volunteer says there’s nothing to Fox News’ story that two Black Panthers were intimidating voters at a polling place in Pennsylvania, Greg Sargent reports on Talking Points Memo. One was an official poll watcher, and though he is a Panther, he was not “blocking the door” as Fox suggested, the volunteer said, adding that neither was affiliated with the campaign. More »
