Star of SNL , 30 Rock to write a collection of essays

(Newser) – Tina Fey just got a little busier. She's finalized a deal to write a collection of humorous essays for Little, Brown and Company, the New York Observer reports. Fey—currently in the spotlight for her spot-on impersonations of VP wannabe Sarah Palin—reportedly worked out a deal to fund the building of six new libraries in poor NYC neighborhoods. Her writing credits include TV's 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, and the movie Mean Girls.

'SNL' was a 'misogynistic environment,' she tells Oprah

(NEWSER) - You hear a lot of nostalgic reminiscing about John Belushi and how funny he was , but not from Jane Curtin. Yesterday on Oprah she recalled the "misogynistic environment" of Saturday Night Live in the 1970s, noting that Belushi was particularly to blame. "[John] said, 'Women are just fundamentally not funny,'" she recalled. "You'd go to a table read, and if a woman writer had written a piece for John, he would not read it in his full voice. He would whisper it. He felt as though it was his duty to sabotage pieces that were written by women." New York magazine has video. More»

(NEWSER) - Always-funny Tina Fey quipped yesterday that the Sarah Palin phenomenon might be her fault because John McCain was gazing at a photo of Fey before he picked the then-Alaska gov to be his running mate. But seriously, folks, she thanked Palin for the opportunity to skewer her near look-alike and boost her career as she accepted the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last night. Fey, 40, is the youngest and the third woman to win the award, which was created 12 years ago. But the next winner might not be able to enjoy the Kennedy Center as it exists today, Fey warned. Drawing on her six decades in comedy, she was the consummate pro at 88 years old—sweet, sassy, salty, charming and clearly game for anything. "I'm not new to live TV," she reminded the audience at the top of the show, and recalled that she had starred in a sitcom that aired live back in 1952.
