(Newser) – Taking advantage of the most auspicious date the numerologically inclined may ever see, couples around the world flocked to marry today, inundating houses of worship, catering halls, hotels, amusement parks, and at least one Las Vegas fish tank. Divers dressed as mermaids attended the underwater couple, the AP reports, and Elvis impersonators were everywhere as the city's chapels overflowed.

Even the paparazzi magnet of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria's Paris nuptials had nothing on Sin City. Meanwhile, exactly 777 couples married in Singapore, Channel News Asia reports, where the date was lucky on both the Western and Chinese calendars. And in China, 8 is even luckier than 7. The new number to watch is 13—months until 8/8/08.
