Hobbled robber flees in car before police track him down

(Newser) – A man armed with a frozen turkey helped hobble a carjacker yesterday in a North Carolina town, the News & Observer reports. The rescuer battered a crook as he attacked a woman in a grocery store parking lot. The robber jumped in her car, smashing into parked vehicles, and was soon pulled over by police. The woman sustained "fairly serious" injuries, police said, but was released from hospital.

(NEWSER) - Another toddler has mysteriously disappeared, this time in Detroit. A father reported his 2-year-old daughter, Bianca Jones, was taken in an armed carjacking. Police located the car just six blocks away 30 minutes later with the engine still running, and the girl missing. The father, Deandre Lane, has failed a polygraph test, sources tell WXYZ-TV in Detroit, and is now in police custody on outstanding warrants. A local businessman has offered a $15,000 reward for information leading to Bianca's return. More»

(NEWSER) - Thanksgiving might just be PETA’s least favorite holiday , and to air their disapproval this year, activists served “baby” for Thanksgiving dinner at displays in Philadelphia and Baltimore. They set up a Thanksgiving spread on a sidewalk, the group’s media coordinator explains to the Los Angeles Times , except instead of a turkey there’s a “baby in the middle” of the table, he says. North Carolina mother is charged with assault with a deadly weapon

(NEWSER) - Two young sisters have told police that their mom intended to hurt them in a deliberate car wreck because she was "mad at daddy," according to investigators. The girls, ages 7 and 8, were treated for cuts and bruises after mom Teresa Caffrey of North Carolina drove their car into a ditch earlier this week. "The children conveyed information to my officers saying she had been arguing with their father and that she was 'mad at daddy' and that's why she wrecked the car," said the local police commander. Caffrey has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and faces additional charges of child abuse and possession of a controlled substance. Teen Busted for Body in Car Trunk

Cops tracked him on the cell phone

(NEWSER) - A North Carolina man was busted Friday after parking his Mustang in Virginia with a woman's body in the trunk, police report. Cops tracked cell phone calls by the 19-year-old suspected killer after discovering a crime scene, and kept watch on his parked car until he returned to it. They discovered the corpse after a search, say investigators. Police have not yet identified the woman. The 19-year-old has been charged with homicide, reports AP . More»
