Emanuel Still Gets Paycheck From Congress

No salary (yet) for White House gig; he hasn't resigned as rep

(Newser) – Rahm Emanuel has started his new job as Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff, but his paycheck is still coming from Congress, the Hill reports. Emanuel is not getting a salary from Obama’s transition team. He hasn’t resigned the House seat to which he was just re-elected, but bid farewell to the Democratic caucus Nov. 18, and hasn’t cast a vote since.

An aide says Emanuel is trying to give his House staff time to find new gigs while still getting salaries and benefits. Emanuel has been under extra scrutiny lately thanks to reports that he talked with Rod Blagojevich’s office, though the FBI report depicts him as an obstacle to the Illinois governor’s schemes.

He will remain on the House payroll until he resigns his seat, a spokeswoman said of Rep. Rahm Emanuel, designated as White House chief of staff. The timing on that has not been decided.

Once again, if this man was a Republican, all hell would break loose over this story. Maybe he should be paid in dead fish.
