Rahm Emanuel has started his new job as Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff, but his paycheck is still coming from Congress, the Hill reports. Emanuel is not getting a salary from Obama’s transition team. He hasn’t resigned the House seat to which he was just re-elected, but bid farewell to the Democratic caucus Nov. 18, and hasn’t cast a vote since.
An aide says Emanuel is trying to give his House staff time to find new gigs while still getting salaries and benefits. Emanuel has been under extra scrutiny lately thanks to reports that he talked with Rod Blagojevich’s office, though the FBI report depicts him as an obstacle to the Illinois governor’s schemes.
