(Newser) – 49ers' coach Mike Singletary can only hope his players are working as hard on their drills as they are on their mustaches. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that many on the team have been growing out their whiskers for Sunday's "throwback game"—in tribute to the glorious, cheesy facial hair of players from decades past. "Every day we go to meetings and we go by these beautiful pictures and we admire these guys' mustaches," says QB Shaun Hill.

(NEWSER) - San Francisco fans weren't happy with Kyle Williams last night—and they let him hear it online. After Williams fumbled two punts to essentially cost the 49ers the NFC Championship game, fans lit into him on Twitter, telling him to kill himself and/or "burn in hell," Mashable reports. Field goal knocks New York over the top in overtime

(NEWSER) - The San Francisco 49ers watched their chance at the Super Bowl slip through their fingers yesterday when the New York Giants converted a fumble to a field goal in overtime. The Giants tapped a 20-17 victory and their fifth trip to the Super Bowl. Two key errors by back-up punt returner Kyle Williams cost the Niners the game. Williams, filling in for the injured Ted Ginn Jr., muffed one punt in the fourth quarter to set up a Giants touchdown and a 17-14 lead. Niners kicker David Akers ended up tying the score with a 25-yard field goal. But in overtime, the ball was knocked from Williams' hands to give the Giants the ball at the 24-yard line. More»

(AP) - For Eli Manning and the New York Giants, Lambeau Field has become a familiar launching pad. After beating the Green Bay Packers at home for the second time in four years, they only hope this trip ends the same way—at the Super Bowl. Manning threw three touchdown passes and the Giants shocked the Packers 37-20 in an NFC divisional playoff game today.
