(Newser) – You have to hand it to Patrick Swayze. He may never win an Oscar, but when his movies have taglines like The dancing’s over. Now it gets dirty, does he really need to? Peter Hartlaub of the San Francisco Chronicle is a devotee of the fine art of the tagline, the frequently awesome, frequently stupid slogans in virtually every movie ad campaign. He identifies the 10 best, chosen for their marketing value, not their so-bad-it’s-good-ness.

Here’s a taste:

  • Rocky: His whole life was a million-to-one shot
  • Jaws 2: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
  • Alien: In space, no one can hear you scream
  • This Is Spinal Tap: Does for rock and roll what "The Sound of Music" did for hills
