Jacko Plans Broadway Thriller

(Newser) – The Gloved One is planning a comeback on Broadway, E! Online reports. After years of promising a return to showbiz, Michael Jackson has agreed to stage a musical based on his smash record, Thriller. He will supervise "every aspect of the creative process," a rep says, allowing producers to use songs from his 1982 pop masterpiece and his 1979 album, Off the Wall.

"I love the idea of making Thriller a musical," said producer James L. Nederlander. "Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret."

(AP) - Just days after the anniversary of his death, a famed black-and-red calfskin jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the classic Thriller video has sold at auction for $1.8 million. The jacket is one of two Jackson wore during the filming of the 1983 Thriller video. The buyer is Texas commodities trader Milton Verret, who says it will be sent on tour and used as a fundraising tool for children's charities. A portion of the sale price will go to the Shambala Preserve, a big cat sanctuary caring for two tigers Jackson once owned. More»

(NEWSER) - Michael Jackson has scored another posthumous honor: The Library of Congress has selected his "Thriller" video to be among the 25 films added this year to the National Film Registry. It's the first music video to make the cut. Other honorees include The Muppet Movie, Dog Day Afternoon, Pillow Talk, and a 1972 effort by then-NYU student Martin Brest called Hot Dogs for Gauguin. (NEWSER) - Tens of thousands of people in dozens of cities around the world turned out last night to honor Michael Jackson with a world record for the number of people performing a single song simultaneously. The Thriller-a-thon, dubbed "Thrill the World," was an attempt to shatter the current record of 13,597—a fraction of the 270,000 projected for last night's effort.
