(Newser) – Dick Cheney is furious that President Bush wouldn’t listen when he repeatedly pushed for a last-minute pardon for Scooter Libby, the New York Daily News reports. The ex-VP “went to the mat and came back and back and back at Bush” for a full pardon, said one close to Cheney. "He was still trying the day before Obama was sworn in."

Bush commuted Libby’s prison sentence after he was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice for stonewalling the investigation into the leak of a CIA agent’s identity. But he didn’t grant a full pardon. Cheney’s “really angry about it,” a source told the Daily News.  He "places great store in loyalty and thinks Scooter got a raw deal," noted another close to the former veep. The once-warm relationship between the president and Cheney reportedly grew colder before they left office.

Yes, because it's not like Libby did anything wrong right? Lying under oath about committing treason is okay with Republicans. Lying under oath only matters if it's about irrelevant sexual peccadilloes. Just don't ask what the Republican congressmen do with diapers on or in bathroom stalls in airports or when they're alone with underage male pages.

SPH, I don't believe a pardon leaves open the option for a new charge. A pardon is not a "reset switch". If you get a pardon for a particular crime, you can never be prosecuted for that crime. It wouldn't make any sense otherwise.
