(Newser) – A suspected store robber has been caught by California cops—about to take an examination to join a local police force, reports the BBC. The man was on police radar since signing up for the exam 2 months ago, but officials were stunned when he actually showed. He took a bus from Las Vegas to Chula Vista, and was grabbed by detectives sitting at the exam registration table.

The suspect is believed to have stolen a TV, DVD player and telephone at a Chula Vista store.
