(Newser) – New-home sales took a surprise upward turn in February, the Commerce Department announced today—the first time sales have increased in seven months. But prices continued to tumble. Single-family home sales were up 4.7%, besting analyst expectations of a 2.9% decline. That still left them down 41.1% year-over-year, however. During that year, the median price dropped 18.1%, to $200,900, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Well, I think it's great that sales were up. People are upset at the prices dropping, understandable, but prices were over inflated for the last 4 years and so, they should be settling soon. The price of homes is not going to be as good as it was before because it was all driven by greed. Texas has SO MANY people that came from California. Why, because the market there was great for selling. They sold old houses (1970's) for $400,000 + and came here, bought land and built a home twice the size- elaborate & new for $200,000+ and still had a nest egg to live on. As a former builder, I'm glad to see new home sales on the rise because something is better than nothing and no----builders aren't going to get as rich off this round of construction as the last...but look where greed got them then. People forget...nothing in life is free and in the end someone pays for it.
