(Newser) – A Dallas police officer drew his gun on Ryan Moats after the NFL running back ran a red light as he tried to get to the hospital where his mother-in-law was dying of cancer, the Morning News reports. Dashboard video shows officer Robert Powell held Moats, 26, for 13 minutes in the hospital parking lot, threatening him with imprisonment. “I can screw you over,” Powell warned.

I saw in his eyes that he really did not care. Honestly, I don’t think I cared that he had a gun pointed at me. My train of thought is that I’m going to see my mom in the hospital before she dies. - Tamishia Moats

Under the circumstances the officer should have showed compassion and common sense.

Bill orally was up in arms tonight about the awful people in Oakland sympathizing with the guy who killed four police this past weekend, and positively shocked, shocked I tell you, at the lack of respect these people have for our noble men in blue. (I apologize, but I'm going to toot my horn here, I posted at Open Salon about more police misconduct this week at http://open.salon.com/blog/aun...)
