Barack Who? Europe Really Hearts Michelle

She's being compared to much-adored Jackie O as her Europe visit nears

(Newser) – Europe's a huge fan of Obama—Michelle Obama, that is. Though hubby has thousands of fervent supporters, it's the first lady whose every move and outfit is lovingly scrutinized by adoring fans, Politico reports. The press is also swooning. "Why doesn't the UK have a Michelle Obama?" asked one paper. But it's still unclear how Michelle will stack up next to European elite like Queen Elizabeth and Carla Bruni.

Comparisons to European fave Jackie O already abound. Unlike prim Americans who shrank at Michelle going sleeveless, Europeans are rooting for the first lady to make bold fashion choices. "Her willingness to experiment are all traits European fashionistas admire," wrote a London blogger. For her part, ex-supermodel Bruni stands a little in awe of her American counterpart: "I think it would probably be better for me to be getting advice from her,” she said recently.

Yea the "media" is doing it. Not the fact that Michelle Robinson built her reputation on her own by becoming a lawyer, a great mom, a community organizer, and getting involved with many social issues out of the White House. If anything, the "media" is ignoring all of this and focusing only all the Oprah type house-wife issues. She is a strong, independent black woman who should be an inspiration to millions, but instead she's being dumbed down because her handlers are worried she'll overshadow Barack and/or appear like "an angry black woman". What a shame. Oh and what has Jackie Kennedy done that makes her so much better than Michelle? They are both intelligent, beautiful, and inspirational women. If anything, Michelle is even more intelligent and has immersed herself in many great social issues and causes from healthy eating to woman's causes. But thanks for that uninspired and thoughtless response.

The media is trying to make her as this generation's Jackie. It will never happen.
