Obama Fakes Center, Goes Liberal

Share

(Newser) – If President Obama were a quarterback, he’d be a master of the fake, Fred Barnes writes in the Weekly Standard. Using “misdirection,” he markets “his product—the liberal agenda, plus a few add-ons—in a manner that disguises what he's really up to.” While trumpeting the free market, Obama has effectively nationalized GM, co-opting management and imposing an environmentalist agenda, all while making it “sound like the corporate equivalent of car repair.”

The same is true for the financial sector, Barnes writes. Sure, Obama says his plan will encourage growth. But in reality, incentives “created to increase investment and charitable donations will vanish” and companies’ “ability to compete in the global economy will fall.” Obama is even brasher when he claims to want to cut the deficit. “In truth,” Barnes writes, “Obama plans to borrow and spend far more than ever.”

Obama's use of misdirection is working. But there's a lesson from football that may apply to Obama. If a team uses a tactic too often, everyone catches on. And it doesn't work anymore.

I like this guy. Sticks it to the Re-BUB-lickins and gets his things done. I'd almost forgotten what a smart politician acted like. Reply

Did anybody check his party affiliation. Sounds like a speech writer for Rush Limbaugh. The last Administration cut so much funding to give money to their buddies at KBR and Blackwater that our country started falling apart. It takes money to fix a car that isn't taken care of and breaks or you get another one. Unfortunately, we can't get another country, so we have to spend money to fix this one. Barnes is an idiot or needs a serious case of "reality check". Reply

Sorry guys, What exactly did he say that was untrue? Obama is spending huge sums of money we don't have and seriously messing with private companies. That's a little close to european style socialism don't you think? Reply

You ask, "What exactly did he say that was untrue?" For starters, the assertion that Obama is using 'misdirection.' No one I know regards barnes as the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he would have had to been asleep for the entire years of 2008 to not know that Obama would pursue a liberal agenda, that's why he was elected. That's hardly misdirection. The rest is just barnes' tired, banal opinions about how no one is going to invest, blah blah, blah. Well, mr barnes they didn't invest their tax cuts under bush either, like so many of the faux news nation claimed they would, which is why we have seen millions of jobs disappear over the last 8 years. Justme says, "Obama is spending huge sums of money we don't have..." so what else is new? Did you object as strenously when bush was "spending huge sums of money we don't have ?" As for messing with private companies, these private companies came to us begging for the money. If you know a good capitalist banker who loans money without some stipulations, please give me their name, I could use a loan unemcumbered by pesky conditions, like my possessing the ability to repay it. Obama is being the consummate capitalist by "messing with these companies," to ensure that you and I get our money back from them.
