Obama Fakes Center, Goes Liberal

(Newser) – If President Obama were a quarterback, he’d be a master of the fake, Fred Barnes writes in the Weekly Standard. Using “misdirection,” he markets “his product—the liberal agenda, plus a few add-ons—in a manner that disguises what he's really up to.” While trumpeting the free market, Obama has effectively nationalized GM, co-opting management and imposing an environmentalist agenda, all while making it “sound like the corporate equivalent of car repair.”

The same is true for the financial sector, Barnes writes. Sure, Obama says his plan will encourage growth. But in reality, incentives “created to increase investment and charitable donations will vanish” and companies’ “ability to compete in the global economy will fall.” Obama is even brasher when he claims to want to cut the deficit. “In truth,” Barnes writes, “Obama plans to borrow and spend far more than ever.”

Obama's use of misdirection is working. But there's a lesson from football that may apply to Obama. If a team uses a tactic too often, everyone catches on. And it doesn't work anymore.
