It's Hunters vs. Rush in Righty Showdown

Sportsmen's groups angry over pundit's ads for Humane Society

Share

(Newser) – Can hunters do what other critics have conspicuously failed to do: face down Rush Limbaugh without taking it back? Recreational shooters' groups are incensed that Limbaugh has been doing public-service radio spots for the Humane Society, denouncing dogfighting and animal cruelty, the Washington Times reports. It's not that they love dogfighting or cruelty, they say, but that Rush is supporting an organization they call "public enemy number one for sportsmen."

"Despite a few programs designed to attract support from the general public," a coalition of 28 sportsmen's groups wrote to Limbaugh, the Humane Society "is in fact an organization that opposes hunting, fishing, and trapping." They asked Limbaugh to stop "helping them to mainstream their image in the minds of reasonable people."

I'm embarrassed for them that they would criticize Rush for amplifying our message that dogfighting and other malicious forms of animal cruelty are unacceptable in society. - Wayne Pacelle, Humane Society president

"Against hunting, fishing and trapping"? Sounds like another domestic terrorist group like PETA and ALF. May they all rot in Hell, or at least a max security prison. Reply

The Humane Society is against cockfighting and dogfighting but also other froms of animal cruelty such as the hunting of imported & exotic animals in "canned" hunting events where the animal doesn't stand a chance and also leg hold traps, where the animal dies a slow, painful death. They also teach people when and how to properly rescue an orphaned animal etc. Who else will stand up for these creatures if humans don't ? I'm not surprised that hunting and gun owner groups and lobbies are up in arms. They're an extemely paranoid lot in general. Are you with them LiberyMan ? Is this your precious liberty ? The right to treat any damned animal the way you damn well please ?
