Share

(Newser) – His Catholic parish was scandalized when photos surfaced of the Rev. Alberto Cutié cavorting on the beach with a 35-year-old divorceé, but his new Episcopalian flock greeted his first sermon this morning with a standing ovation, reports the Miami Herald. From the altar of Miami’s Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Cutié told the congregation, which included said 35-year-old divorceé, "I am humbled by your presence here.”

Cutié stressed that "church is about forgiveness," and discussed turning to God for guidance. “Church is about living in the spirit of God, and the spirit of God is love,” he concluded.

Father Cutié's actions have caused grave scandal within the Catholic Church, harmed the Archdiocese of Miami—especially our priests—and led to division within the ecumenical community and the community at large. - Archbishop John C. Favalora

It might simply be pointed out that Catholics might have a problem with the woman being divorced rather than twice referring to her as a "35-year-old divorcée"... That's just tacky. Reply

Agreed. As a former Catholic, I see nothing but hypocrisy, graft, pedophilia - unable to manage its own, treat the abused, nor correct abuses = denial / baltant lies. A vow of celibacy is ludicrous; priest, nuns are human. To deny one's sexuality breeds temptation, contempt, loneliness, failure. If everything is a sin that is human, what's the point... (ie; masturbation, birth control)? I have a friend who was a priest - he said it was no different from working for 'Big Blue' (IBM), with all the politics and more found in the private sector (exception, celibacy which he said was something most couldn't maintain). The history of the Catholic church has been predicated upon oppression, manipulation, fear, hypocrisy (do as I say, not as I do). I couldn't take the fact that diocese around the nation and the world were bankrupt, yet their stance was denial. I stopped tithing and eventually left 20 years ago upon realizing the church was simply moving pedophiles around, like chess pieces, from parish to parish, with no intent of ridding themselves of these animal predators. G-d, in old testament, yielded amazing feats; but nothing for all the atrocities man has accomplished in her/his name. At this juncture, I'm either agnostic, likely atheist,t thanks to the church. No mas(s)...

As a former priest and now atheist-quite a change hey-taht's what too much education can do-I'll can onlytell you that having been a memebr of the "good old boys club" it is great to be out with the real people and not living in a dream world. The church is slow to forgive and slower to change-and that will result in fewer people joining it. Reply

Demi......your like a reed in the wind you blow in any direction. Your like that bug I just stepped on. At least that bug had a purpose. You on the other hand, are counted as useless and without purpose. Somehow I believe they kicked you out of the church. As the saying goes; there are no atheist's in a foxhole..........dude
