Bud Ad Takes Porn Mainstream

Internet commercial suggests Bud drinkers buy porn

Share

(Newser) – A new Bud Light ad—a viral video too risque for TV—points to the fact that pornography has “soaked so far into the fabric of mainstream culture that it's no longer seen as a stain,” writes Belinda Luscombe in Time. The ad suggests Bud Light drinkers are into porn: It shows a man buying the beer alongside a “really nasty” magazine, comically catching the attention of everyone in the shop. The fallout from the ad? There hasn't been any.

“There's a whole generation that has been pornified,” says one anti-porn activist. And any controversy could ultimately help Budweiser. “Why is such a huge company aligning itself with pornography? Because Budweiser must have calculated it was worth the risk to alienate some people, if they could reach their core buyers,” said a marketing expert.

I always wonder where it's going to end. When you get old enough to look back over 20 or 30 years and realize how things have changed, and realize its just going to keep changing, it makes you wonder how far it will go. Just take a pair of jeans for example. 20 years ago, the waist was at your bellybutton, and it actually covered your rear end. Now the waist barely covers your crotch, and your crack hangs out, and that is considered "normal". So where does it end? Shirts used to cover your chest, now your shirt sucks if your entire breast except for your nipple doesnt hang out. At what point does someone say, welp, can't go any further... We've gone from the days of I Love Lucy which couldn't even show a man and wife in the same bed, even fully dressed, so showing pornish stuff during commercials. So in 50 years will actual sex be allowed on sitcoms? The more people are desensitized to something, the more it is acceptable. Porn is becoming acceptable, so how long until the heads of programming think sex is ok? Interesting to think about... Reply

I agree with you. Sometimes commercials are so sexual thatt it's hard to fugure out what they'rre hawking.I mean if we weren't supposed to wear clothes the why do we. It gets less all the time. I have a 1 year old daughter and I can't imagine her future. I remember when it was bad to be a whore in school and you were outcasted. Now, it's celebrated.

atomick has it right... what is worse, sex or violence? Embrace sex, uptight prudish Americans, why can't you be as comfortable with nudity and sexuality as they are with violence and gore? Which is really worse for children and society etc.?

Right on. What was so good about 20 or 30 years ago? Let's stop pretending to be all nice and civilized. This is natural. Let's be natural. Let's give in to our basic instincts and evolve beyond niceties and political correctness, that's all a waste of time. Desensitizing? Forget that. Hiding sex in the first place was the mistake. We need to be ourselves. Will it be the end of society as we know it? I sure hope so. Reply
