Clinton: US Is 'Waiting and Watching' on Iran

(AP) – Hillary Clinton said today the US hopes the outcome of the contested Iranian presidential election reflects the "genuine will and desire" of the Iranian people. "We are monitoring the situation as it unfolds in Iran, but we, like the rest of the world, are waiting and watching to see what the Iranian people decide," the secretary of state said in Ontario. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has emerged the easy winner, though his main rival alleges fraud.

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the Obama administration is paying close attention to reports of alleged election irregularities. At a joint appearance with Clinton, Canadian foreign affairs minister Lawrence Cannon said his country was "deeply concerned" by reports of irregularities in the election. "We're troubled by reports of intimidation of opposition candidates' offices by security forces," he said.

I'm not so sure the CIA or USA is not currently 'interfering' in Iran. The MEK (Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization) -- officially designated a terrorist outfit by the US -- had the support of Cheney, the Pentagon and Congress, and their anti-government activities inside Iran might still be supported by the USA.

Maybe Iran could ask the US Supreme Court to step in and overturn their inconvenient election results, the way it was done here in 2000. Oh, I forgot - Iran is a Democracy, whereas the US is Constitutional Republic with an electoral college and the courts standing between the people and the presidency. Never mind.
