(Newser) – Sen. John McCain called today on CIA director Leon Panetta to “retract immediately” his suggestion that Dick Cheney might want another attack on the US, the Hill reports. Panetta told the New Yorker that “it’s almost as if” Cheney is “wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point” that the Obama administration has made America less safe.

“I disagreed with the Cheney policy on interrogation techniques, but never did it cross my mind that Dick Cheney would ever want an attack on the United States of America," McCain told Fox News. "It's unfair, and I think that Mr. Panetta should retract, and retract immediately."

Are any staff at the CIA leaking info. to Cheney? Sounds like another Valerie Plame scandal in the making. If Mr. Panetta doesn't investigate any leaks then he should resign.

I believe that Panetta was telling the truth. Cheney didn't blink an eye when thousands of Iraqis died. His mindset is that "collateral damage" is commonplace when asserting the role of America overseas.

I would agree that I think that Cheney wouldn't exactly mind a chance to say I told you so. Of course it us a matter of time until the US is attacked again. Very likely that just like the previous two times that we won't have paid attention to the warnings.
