Madoff Arrives at Posh Prison

By Kevin Spak,  Newser Staff

(Newser) – Bernie Madoff has reached his destination for the next 150 years or so. Clad in a blue jumpsuit, the fraudulent financier arrived at Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina just before noon today, ABC News reports. But the 71-year-old can take heart, because he “hit the inmate lottery,” by being assigned to Butner, according to one federal sentencing attorney.

The medium security lockup he’ll reside in is “one of the crown jewels of the federal prison system,” he continued. “It looks and feels like a college campus.” The prison is full of white collar criminals, often gets interns from UNC and Duke, and has a good staff. “And I always say happy staff makes for happy inmates.”

I agree that a 70+ year old man that is not violent should be somewhere where he doesn't have to fear for his life. You guys are talking like he's been sent to a deluxe spa or something. He may not be living in fear, but holy smokes people, the man has lost the rest of his life! I think it's appropriate, since he took so many others' life savings or livelihoods. No matter how UNviolent this place is... the fact remains that this man has lost his "life". Things you and I take from granted are forever gone from him. In my mind, it's enough. He'll suffer, don't you worry.

another elite goes to club fed. does he get his special soap, his silverware at dinner, his whatever? the discrepancy between the haves and the have nots is glaringly obvious. it makes me pysically ill.

So only actual victims of his ponzi scheme get to comment? Mjoh3 was simply pointing out that non-violent first time offenders are always treated this way. Which is true.
