QB Roethlisberger: Rape Claim 'False and Vicious'

Share

(Newser) – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger today denied allegations he raped a woman at a Nevada resort last year, the Post-Gazette reports. The suit was filed last week, but today marked Roethlisberger’s first public statements. He called the allegations “an attack on my family” and vowed to “remain focused on the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

“I did not sexually assault” the accuser, Roethlisberger said. “Saturday was the first that I learned of her accusations. Her false and vicious allegations are an attack on my family and on me. I would never, ever, force myself on a woman. I am going to fight to protect my family and my reputation. I’m not going to discuss my private life or this civil case in the media. I’ll respond to her outrageous allegations in the appropriate forum.”

The allegations against me are reckless and false. As much as I would like to answer everyone's questions, I'm going to respect the legal process and I am confident that the truth will prevail. - Ben Roethlisberger

Roethlisberger Said "I’m not going to discuss my private life or this civil case in the media". He will only say IN THE MEDIA that he is innocent. Oh yeah, all innocent people have to have press conferences to say that they have no comment for the media while commenting to the media about heir innocence. Well, Ben, with that kind of flawless logic, I'm sure when you get out of prison that the NFL will at least entertain the notion of re-instating you. and if you need any tips on jail life, you can always call another disgraced NFL player, because there seems to be an over-abundance. 1. Civil. Hello? 2. If he did NOT hold a press conference, you would just say he's hiding because he's got something to hide, right?

Hey no reason to presume that he is innocent until proven guilty. He is a large figure in the media--of course he called a press conference to respond to the allegations; his silence would be assumed as an admission of guilt. Think it's curious that the accuser is filing civil and not criminal charges? She just wants his money, and even co-workers refuse to back her story. Reply

Maybe, but using the media to say i won't discuss this with the media is comical, at best, and criminal at worst.
