LA Plastered With Obama 'Joker' Posters

By Harry Kimball,  Newser Staff

(Newser) – Posters of President Obama in Heath Ledger-like Joker makeup from The Dark Knight with a caption reading “Socialism” have sprung up in Los Angeles and Atlanta, the Daily Contributor reports. Similar posters online have the caption “why so socialist?” The guerilla art attacks, not yet claimed by any group, seem to be a reaction to Obama’s plan to reform the health-care system.

Ignatius Reilly, writing on Right Pundits, is delighted with the attack, though he doesn’t “‘get’ the Joker imagery.” He “would’ve turned Obama into Mao or Lenin.” Thomas Lifson thinks this is just the beginning, he writes on American Thinker. “It is starting. Open mockery of Barack Obama, as disillusionment sets in with the man, his policies, and the phony image of a race-healing, brilliant, scholarly, middle-of-the-roader.”

As to be expected, some are claiming that the comically large red lips are racist. I think that’s nonsense. There’s nothing racist about depicting Obama as a famous movie character. - Ignatius Reilly

@The Deeb - I am really beginning to think CK was on to something with the liberal fascist thing, as much as I hate to consider it. There are liberals here who surely bashed Bush as hard as the repugs are bashing Obama, yet now it's not ok to bash Obama now. If one is not saying what they want to hear, one gets banned. Liberal fascism? I don't know, but I also don't know a better word to describe what I am seeing here at Newser. I am aware that most of the repugs are disgusted at the idea of a black man becoming President more than they are disgusted with his policies, yet I defend their right to feel that way. I defend the homophobic's right to be homophobic, too, although I am gay. I don't like what I consider to be hate speech, but the crazies out there are crazy regardless of the speech. If they're going off the deep end, they're going regardless of what Beck, Hannity or Savage say. It's like violent video games; some kids cannot delineate the lines between reality and fantasy, but the majority of kids can play violent video games without feeling a need to go kill someone. I really am saddened by the apparent need of some to silence others. Even if the one being silenced is not bringing solid debate to the program, I am against silencing them. There are plenty of liberals here who sometimes only bring sarcasm to the table, too. It works both ways and I think some folks need to look in the mirror. :o(

hypethang, what makes you think I don't *always* have on a black face? Is it because I didn't take up for Gates? Is it because I don't communicate as *YOU* expect a black person to communicate? I'm not saying he be, we be, she be enough for you? Do I not fit your stereotype?

have you ever noticed - on a map - that you don't pay taxes?
