Judge Lets Off Man Who Helped Geese Cross Freeway

(Newser) – A judge went easy yesterday on the Virginia man who pulled over to help geese cross a highway only to be slapped with a jaywalking ticket, the Washington Post reports. The judge said Jozsef Vamosi probably broke the law, but said he’d drop the case if the 60-year-old remained on good behavior. “I think I do what I have to do,” Vamosi shrugged. “That’s the way I was raised.”

The officer who ticketed Vamosi described seeing him “get out and actually chase the geese” across four lanes of traffic. “There were numerous vehicles. They had to slam on their brakes very hard. It almost caused a crash or a pileup.” When the officer told Vamosi to get out of the road, “He told me no, repeatedly. He told me he was trying to save the geese.”

@SP - I totally dig your comment and wished I had made it, but I must point out that a similarly sarcastic comment by someone on the right could lead to the banning of that person. We must all be allowed and encouraged to comment regardless of whether our comments are on topic, pithy, witty or against this or that. Godawgs is routinely thumbed down regardless of how thoughtful his comment may be. He can make a sarcastic remark, as is his right, and get thumbed down or he can make a thoughtful comment that supports HIS side of the argument and get thumbed down. We give CK's lib fascist tag credibility by supporting only one side's right to be sarcastic at times and right to make an argument regardless of whether we consider it valid or not. I'm going to keep preaching this until I see fairness.

as much as i hate geese, this story is precious, and teaches us a well deserved lesson about kindness. can't believe they wanted to fine him.

The judge wasn't saying the officer was wrong or the animal lover was right--just that under the circumstances he was not going to impose a fine.
