French Pool Boots Woman in 'Burkini'

Officials say head-to-toe swimwear violates hygiene rules

Share

(Newser) – A Muslim woman has been banned from a French public pool for wearing a head-to-toe "burkini" swimsuit, the BBC reports. The woman, who had purchased the suit in Dubai, called the ruling "segregation." Officials cited hygiene rules that prevent swimming clothed, and said it was not because of religious discrimination or the country's efforts to ban the burka. "That type of suit does not exist in the Koran," explained the town's mayor.

Quite simply, this is segregation. I will fight to try to change things. And if I see that the battle is lost, I cannot rule out leaving France.

What does that have to do with anything? Try reading more than the Newser condensed version. Baggy clothes are banned from the pool. That's not segregation...I have to laugh at the woman whining about segregation anyway, seeing as how over here in the US, Muslim women are demanding segregation and in some cases, sadly winning, and getting their own private time, even in university pools which then boot out OTHER students so these extremists can force their ways on the rest of the public and get special time all to themselves. We need to France-up.

it was a joke prowl, which you obviously didn't get. a previous story on newser reported that those showing up at pools wearing their baggy american style swim trunks had to don speedos due to the fact the baggies might carry in sand or other unsanitary debris. the mayor said the suit did not exist in the koran (of course not) well, neither did the speedo suit, or for that matter baggy american swim trunks.

Burkas must be banned. They are not clothing, They are not religious symbols like a cross or a yarmulka, they are tools of religious oppression. Would we tolerate a religious requirement that forced a woman to wear a sign in public once a month that proclaimed her to be "UNCLEAN?" That would be sexist and oppressive and humiliating ... just like a burka. Reply
