Wrigley Field Beer-Chucker Surrenders

Share

(Newser) – A Cubs fan suspected of dousing Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino with beer at Wrigley Field Wednesday night has turned himself in to police, the Chicago Tribune reports. The fan—who escaped detection when the wrong fan was ejected and hauled off for questioning immediately after the incident—got in touch with police after his photo was splashed all over the Internet and TV news.

Victorino was soaked after a cup of beer was thrown from the bleachers as he went for a fly ball. He made the catch anyway and the Phillies went on to win 12-5. "For me, it's part of the game. It's one of those things that happens. I just want to make sure he gets what's due," Victorino said later. The fan has been charged with two misdemeanors. "I'd like to apologize to Shane Victorino. It really was nothing against him," he said after being released on bond. "The Chicago Cubs, I'm sorry I disgraced you."

Aww, whatever happened to the good old days when you could pitch beer on someone without being branded a violent offender. Years ago, I was at a Ramones show and some chick was pouring beer all over people from the balcony--most of the people opened their mouths to catch some. Her BF was some Jesus lookalike who got 86'd even though he was the mellow one. He had two goons with him that were roughing people up. Jesus didn't die for anyone's sins that night--but he did take the rap for his shit-faced GF and their thug buddies. Reply

Wish it was a Phillies fan throwing beer on the Cubs....I hate the cubs. At least Victorino still made the catch and the Cubs got their butt kicked that game. Funny part is some poor fan probably got arrested/kicked out and he didn't even do it. Guy that tossed the beer got to have a few more and watch the game. Reply

Classless move. I'm a die-hard Cubs fan, and this is just embarrassing. Reply

Only a Cubs fan wouldn't know what to do with a beer. Go White-Sox! Reply
