'Real' Model: I Didn't Like the Pic

But even though it's 'not the most flattering,' it is 'real'

(Newser) – The world is still in love with Lizzi Miller, the plus-size model recently featured on Glamour’s page 194—but Miller herself wasn’t a fan of the belly-baring photograph when she first saw it. The 5’11”, 180-pound Miller tells Today, “I’m just like every other girl who has insecurities. The first thing I thought was, ‘OK, not the most flattering picture.’”

Still, responses from readers who identified with Miller—between a size 12 and 14, she is in line with the average American woman’s body size—brought tears to her eyes, and she hopes it will create change in the fashion industry. “This was a real picture,” she says. “I’m healthy and I work out; I live a healthy lifestyle. This is how I look; I embrace it.”

Glamour editor Cindi Leive says of Lizzi's photo, Will it change our approach? I think it will.

She is absolutely GORGEOUS. Her bones don't look like sticks and she looks healthy. She is a good role model for the rest of us REAL healthy women. About time! I'll bet her teeth are beautiful too as she doesn't puke up her food after eating it.

Yeah fine. She's 20 and weighs 180. Real healthy.

I find it weird that the fashion industry is all about plus size and super skinny, but not into average. There was a plus-size girl on America's Next Top Model who lost weight mid-season, and thus fell to a "normal" weight, which is medically considered the most healthy. However, it's this weird fashion no-man's land, and so she was kicked off. As a girl thinner than Miss Miller, but a far cry from a size 0, it's a little disconcerting.
