Adam Goldstein text messaged friends before death; Mandy Moore 'heartbroken'

(Newser) – Details of DJ AM’s final hours are beginning to come together, and police sources tell People he sent out his last text message at 1am the day he died. Two friends received the message, about his gig in Las Vegas that night—and 16 hours later, a friend called 911 after Goldstein failed to answer his phone or leave for his scheduled flight.

Meanwhile, celebrity remembrances continue to pour in, including one from ex-girlfriend Mandy Moore. “I am absolutely heartbroken,” she tells Us in a statement. “For those of us lucky enough to have known him, Adam radiated a contagious exuberance for life and also personified the very definition of a true friend. To say that he will be missed beyond words is an understatement. My heart goes out to his loved ones.”

(NEWSER) - Whitney Houston was supposed to make a big-screen comeback in Sparkle, a remake of a 1976 movie loosely based on The Supremes' story. Houston contributed two songs and stars as the mother of three daughters who form a music group, and the New York Post notes that the film is still on track for its original August release date—or perhaps as early as Memorial Day. Pushing the film up "absolutely isn't being done to make money," an apparently straight-faced source tells Radar . "The reasoning is that Whitney's fans will want to see her in this movie, in which she gives a remarkable performance." In other sad movie news, the president of Fox 2000 Pictures tells Vulture that the planned sequel to Waiting to Exhale will move forward without Houston. Who could take Houston's place? Huge send-off planned for Friday

(NEWSER) - Whitney Houston is back home in New Jersey, where family members are planning to let fans say farewell at a service for the late singer. A gold hearse took Houston's body from the airport to a funeral home in her hometown of Newark, reports the BBC . Her family hopes to use the city's 18,000-capacity Prudential Center for a wake on Thursday, and a funeral on Friday, sources tell the New York Times . More»

(NEWSER) - Eerie news from TMZ : Less than 24 hours before her mother was found dead in a hotel bathtub, Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was also found asleep in a tub in the same hotel. Bobbi Kristina's friends called security on Friday night after knocking on the door of her room repeatedly, with no response. TMZ also reports that family members fear the 18-year-old, who has been hospitalized twice since Houston's death , may be suicidal. One source says the family is considering rehab for her. More»
