Hackers Get 43 Cents for Every Hijacked Mac

(Newser) – Mac users, beware: the Russians are after you. A notorious network of spammers in the country pays hackers 43 cents for every Mac they infect with fake software, an investigator says. At a security conference in Switzerland, the researcher laid out a specific scheme to get Mac users to install malware in the guise of a video player. The Russian spammers still mostly go after Windows, but the Mac threat is a disturbing new trend, notes ComputerWorld.

"The growing evidence of financially-motivated criminals looking at Apple Macs as well as Windows as a market for their activities, is not good news," blogs Graham Cluley at Sophos. "Especially as so many Mac users currently have no anti-malware protection in place at all."

Actually I would say Macs are for people that want to run Mac-only software:Final Cut Pro, Logic (I'm STILL mad at Apple for stopping Windows support), Shake, etc. Now back in the day that software list would include Adobe products AND Pro Tools. Not anymore. Apple blind allegence and superior complexes are for people that have nothing to feel good about themselves.

Well that's a major part of it. Guess what Apple fans, when 1 out of every 20 PCs sold is a Mac, no one cares to put the time and effort into writing malicious software for you. Get more of a corporate presence and let's see what happens. Hmmmm.

@BBlaster. That is PRECISELY my case. The I-am-a-superior-computer-USER goes right out the Window(s). Many computer users just refuse to learn proper maintenance and operation. Now Apple wanted Microsoft to stop some of their laptop ads that had old MacBook prices, BEFORE Apple slashed prices. Is it safe to say that Apple will no longer show the I'm-a-Mac commercials where people"I just wanta computer that doesn't crash and has no viruses"? @2-buts. Yeah, it's like the cat burglar that poses as a cop -wow is this a 1950s detective flick, really, cat burglar. @ Shon, good point. The ability to manipulate certain equipment has always been there, it is the INTENT of that person. Kinda like someone that works for a fire dept. being a major arsonist, on the side for extra cash. @yourself. The problem is that many will just accept what Apple is saying, and Apple doesn't seem too interested in admitting that as their market share grows so will the 'issues' that face the market leader, ie. Windows PCs. Apple seems more interested in saying how everything they do is infallible. It would be a little more responsible on their part to have an education about PC usage video or something, AND stop with the absurd marketing: The Mac is the best computer EVER.
