New Pakistan Bomb Kills 41

Fourth terror attack in a week rocks nation

Share

(Newser) – Yet another massive bomb has struck a market in Pakistan, this time killing 41 people. The blast in the Shangla district is the fourth terrorist attack in just over a week. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, carried out before an expected US-backed offensive in the al-Qaeda and Taliban stronghold of South Waziristan. The Taliban claimed responsibility today for the weekend siege of Pakistan's army headquarters in which 30 hostages were seized.

I don't see the strategic value of bombing civilian targets in either Pakistan or Afghanistan. It just causes resentment and a bit more pressure for the armies to fight more, but they're already fighting . . . so it wouldn't be false flag operations either. Maybe Cheney's "final throes" proclamation finally has an application . . . Reply

Terror attacks on civilian populations has been around for centuries. But,has come into its own since the late 1800's. Most notably the Blitz in WW2. Gas in WW!1 and others Pakistan doesnt want to get off their asses and invade the tribal areas in the North. Thus, when given a safe haven for terroists what do you expect Reply

I don't understand, SemperFi. You're right saying that Pakistan hasn't wanted to control the anti-Western tribes, but they've started doing that now in the Swat Valley, and soon again in Waziristan, I think . . . And they did that because they gave the Taliban an inch and they took ten miles . . . About the safe haven, yeah, nearly anyone could be hiding in the countryside of Pakistan. So why blow up city people? The safe haven is in the country. ................................. I'm saying there is no strategic value in the bombings. I wasn't saying it was simply shocking.
