White House Doesn't Take Glenn Beck 'Very Seriously'

Administration not sweating Fox host's campaign against Anita Dunn

(Newser) – Fox talking head Glenn Beck has White House communications director Anita Dunn in his crosshairs, but the administration isn't exactly sweating. "I caught some of that from the Glenn Beck show yesterday, but I don't think anybody takes it—takes his attacks very seriously," the deputy White House press secretary said today of Beck's vitriolic reaction to a video in which Dunn says Mao Zedong is one of her "favorite political philosophers."

"We go day to day in this White House trying to ensure that people know the truth about the policies and programs and positions that the president holds, and we're going to continue to do that," Bill Burton told the Chicago Tribune on Air Force One en route to Texas.

@ariel well the President didn't win with a 78% majority so that's not really accurate. If you really want to get technical with polls the President's overall approval rating is also at the lowest so far in his Presidency. It is still over 50% though.

It just makes for a waste of time if you don't cite your source if it is at all controversial or incredible to some here. We preach this accountability to the feeble-minded FOX News followers all the time. Cat-Lover *needed* to cite his/her source when he/she quoted the 78% number. And then you folk modded godawgs down for asking for a citation? WTF? We liberals are better at this because we're right -- usually (IMO), so we *can* cite our sources. Not doing so makes us look weak. And when we are *are* wrong, we will want to be challenged and corrected by our conservative compatriots. Get some balance in your outlook. Not all liberals make sense or are honest, and not all conservatives are card-carrying, loose-with-the-facts dittoheads.

Sure, there might be a negative side to the White House engaging Beck in that it draws attention to him. But I disagree that it gives him credibility. The people who think Beck is a reliable source of information or has something intelligent to offer are far right and uninformed. I don't think you're going to get many moderates/independents going, "who is this Beck guy, wow he makes great points!" In other words, I don't think there is a danger of giving him power by recognizing him. I think the WH is doing a responsible thing for refusing to let major media figures blatantly lie or twist the facts about policy to get ratings. It's very dangerous and it's great they are giving him some feedback. Reply
