U2 to Stream Concert on YouTube

Sunday's show will stream live, for free

(Newser) – U2 will offer a video stream of a live concert for free on YouTube this Sunday. The stream of the sold-out show at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California will be available in 16 countries, including the US, Brazil, Israel, and Australia. U2 has "wanted to do something like this for a long time," manager Paul McGuinness tells the Telegraph. "Fans often travel long distances to see U2; this time U2 can go to them, globally."

(NEWSER) - Another blow to Netflix ? Amazon.com announced today that it will increase the number of Instant Video selections that Amazon Prime members can stream for free. The new partnership with Viacom will add TV episodes from MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, TV Land, Spike, VH1, BET, and more networks, bringing the total number of Prime Instant Videos to more than 15,000. In short, it means that Amazon Prime members will soon be able to watch past episodes of Jersey Shore for free. More»

Verizon, Redbox Team Up to Take Down Netflix

New streaming venture announced, but few details given

(NEWSER) - Watch out, Netflix: Verizon and Redbox are teaming up. Verizon announced today it will enter the video streaming business in a joint venture with Coinstar, the parent company of Redbox DVD rental kiosks, Mashable reports. Verizon said the new service, which will also include access to DVD and Blu-ray discs, will be available across the nation later this year. Anyone in the US, even those who are not current Verizon subscribers, will be able to use the subscription service. More»

(NEWSER) - You can currently catch a performance of John Cage's "Organ²/ASLSP(As SLow aS Possible)" in Halberstadt, Germany—and your great-great-great-(OK, do that 15 more times)-grandchild will be able to catch the end of it. The Washington Post takes a look at the most unusual concert, currently in its 10th year and scheduled to end in 2640. Cage himself did not pick that end-date; 639 years is the length of time between the construction of the first church organ and the 2001 start of his performance, which coincided with Cage's 85th birthday.
