Karadzic Caught Discussing Genocide on Wiretap

Prosecutors reveal tape as Bosnian leader's trial goes on without him

(Newser) – Radovan Karadzic was caught on tape ordering the slaughter at Zepa and Srebenica, prosecutors revealed today at the war crimes trial of the former Bosnian Serb leader. “It will be a black cauldron,” Karadzic says on the tape, “where 300,000 Muslims will die.” But prosecutor Alan Tieger was forced to make his accusations before several rows of empty desks, because Karadzic and his defense team made good on their promise to boycott the trial.

It was the second day Karadzic skipped court, and the judge decided to press on without him, warning that if the boycott continued, he'd forcibly appoint a representative for Karadzic. Tieger began his case by describing the wiretap evidence, which caught Karadzic signing the attack order and laughing off international pressure. “Europe will be told to go fuck itself,” he quoted Karadzic saying, “and not to come back until the job is finished.”

@reasonator, you were reading with the wrong eye. Iraq did NOT have uranium. Which eye of yours reads only Fox News? In a fair world, Bush/Cheney would indeed be prosecuted for genocide and war crimes. Just because the perpetrators are "above the law" and use sophisticated ways of committing their killing does NOT mean we, the people have to exonerate them.

Also, they weren't trying to out Plame as a way to be mean and nasty, they were trying to show that the only reason Joe Wilson was doing his report in the first place is because his wife pulled some strings for him. In other words, he had an agenda, and he used his wife's pull to go chasing after that agenda. Besides, no one thinks Joe was able to really do a thorough investigation of whether yellowcake was sold to Iraq or not. It's not like Niger would admit to something like that. But even if it didn't come from Niger, Iraq DID have yellowcake that they were hiding from the U.S.
