Calif. Parole Bungled Jaycee Case

Watchdog says Dugard could've been found long ago

Share

(Newser) – Jaycee Lee Dugard could have been found and Phillip Garrido put behind bars much sooner if California parole officials had done their jobs properly, a report by a state prison monitor says. For starters, authorities did nothing when Garrido’s electronic monitor showed he’d traveled further from his home than permitted. Because of his violent history, Garrido should’ve received attention from officials, says Inspector General David Shaw’s report.

Instead, parole agents seemed to go out of their way to ignore red flags. Officers didn’t explore utility wires or other physical clues to the backyard compound where he was keeping Dugard and her daughters captive, even after one agent encountered a young girl at the house on a routine visit, the LA Times reports.

I think from the resent developments in Cleavland it is clear that the parole of rapists need to be re-evaluated. Reply

re-evaluated? How about Non-existent. If a violent offender is behind bars like this predator once was then they should stay there for eternity to ensure no female regardless of age is ever harmed again. Yes it sounds inhumane but look at the ten females who's bodies are just now being discovered, the countless females murdered each year by such predators It is past time to demand the revolving door on the penal system be shut for perpetrators of such violence.

Another dynamic at play is the neighborhood, especially the Cleveland case. As middle class professionals who have lived and operated a professional office in a "fringe" downtown area, our calls to report crime and ask for help are not taken as seriously or urgently as in other parts of town. In the Cleveland case, bloody bodies were reported in the yard more than once. Duh? Reply
