(Newser) – Two 30-pound halibut and 20 lobsters from an educational aquarium in Los Angeles are missing and presumed lunch. Officials at SEA Lab, which is visited by 20,000 schoolchildren a year, say thieves broke in and raided the tanks over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports. They suspect the crooks sold their haul at markets, where the halibut could fetch up to $1,000. The aquarium has now installed surveillance video cameras.

The thieves targeted the largest lobsters, aquarium officials say.

These are much more valuable as an educational tool. This person, by removing the halibut, has removed that experience from thousands of people. It was just one person's selfish needs. I can't comprehend it.
- SEA Lab program director Brent Schiewe

Merry Christmas to you also chimpiphany.....by the way, Since I started being a nurse I don't even hunt anymore, lost the taste for it..still fish but don't like the shooting....I am also quite aware of the pain /lobster thing too...havent had a live lobster in years..and if I did, i start them off in cool water and warm it slowly..they just go to sleep, and are supposed to not feel a thing because they are unconcious (so I have been told)..I really don't beleive in being cruel to animals either...but I do make irreverant remarks at times , mainly just to be a wise-ass... :) (self admittedly so lol)...BTW..I have a 200gallon aquarium with an about 20 inch black ghost that I hand feed and even pet..and three oscars that wait for eathworms everytime I walk by (but don't pet them they tend to bite lol)...I like animals too it's all good
