In the latest scandal to rock the Catholic church, a Brazilian priest has been removed from his post after a video of him having sex with a 19-year-old altar boy surfaced. Father Luiz Marques Barbosa, 82, was filmed with a hidden camera by a 21-year-old who alleges he was abused by the same priest, CNN reports. Local police say the priest was already under investigation for sexual abuse when the video was aired by a news channel.
Two other Catholic priests in the same city in northeastern Brazil are also under investigation for having sex with boys and young men. News channel SBT confronted Barbosa for its broadcast, first asking him if he had ever sinned. "Who has never committed a sin?" he responded. When asked if he had ever abused boys, Barbosa said that was a question he could only answer in confession. The church is already reeling from the latest revelations concerning widespread sex abuse by priests in Ireland.
