Jack Kevorkian's old assisted suicide van can't be sold on eBay, the company decided yesterday, because it's “murderabilia,” and hence violates eBay's policies. The 1968 Volkswagen van had drawn a high bid of $3,400 before the company pulled it down, telling the AP that it “does not allow the sale of items closely associated with notorious murders within the last 100 years.”
The van was listed by Jack Finn, a retired auto parts dealer. Kevorkian turned the van over for scrap in 1997, but Finn kept it around. He says he's selling it to clear space, though his timing happens to coincide with the premiere of Al Pacino's Kevorkian biopic on HBO. “I don't run eBay, Craigslist or the world,” he laments. Kruse Auctions in Indiana has now agreed to put the van on the auction block next month.
