Chad Jones, a New York Giants draft pick who was a two-sport star at LSU, is in guarded condition and in danger of losing his left foot after a car accident early this morning in New Orleans, the Shreveport Times reports. Jones, a safety who entered the draft after his junior year, was trapped in his 2010 Range Rover for 20 minutes but was able to give emergency workers his father's cellphone number, the Baton Rouge Advocate reports.

"We're strong and we're praying," said Al Jones, a high school principal in New Orleans. "I'm used to making those phone calls and now we've received one. It's heartbreaking." Chad Jones, the Giants' third-round pick and a Houston Astros draftee in 2007, was on the LSU teams that won the national football title in 2007 and the College World Series in 2009. "We are praying for Chad and ask that everyone does the same," his agent said in a statement. (More Chad Jones stories.)
