Don't Touch That Receipt! It May Be Toxic

40% of receipts tested were slathered with bisphenol A

(Newser) – Sheesh: The same toxic chemical—bisphenol A—that's shown up in baby bottles and canned goods is apparently also all over the receipts you get from stores and restaurants, and in much greater amounts. BPA was found in the coating used on cash register receipts in 40% of businesses tested, including McDonald's, Whole Foods, and Wal-Mart. It comes off on your hands, a scientist tells AOL News, and can get into your bloodstream through your skin.

Tests found 250 to 1,000 times more BPA on receipts than on plastic containers and cans, meaning the people most at risk would be those who staff cash registers and bag groceries. BPA, which has been shown to disrupt the development of the brain and reproductive system in animals, has been linked to a long list of potential heath problems, and the damage can be passed along in epigenetic changes.

Well, I just couldn't wait to get the bombshell of the day. Before I forget, I agree with "Toon". It's especially true with Wal-Mart, who, if you can believe it, was once rated number one out of the one hundred top employers. It seems after Sam Walton passed away the company went to the dogs. The employee ad ran for what must be years over the denial of health benefits. Now about the sales slips. I shared the story with my wife and she was aghast and immediately moved to discard an armful of receipts she had retained. I suppose we're going to have to invest in a box of surgical gloves in order to go shopping. How should we handle the receipt for the gloves though, a pair of tweezers, winter gloves or maybe a Haz-Mat stick would be nice. Guess I'll warm up the ole typewriter and get letters off to the FDA and Ralph Nader. Will you join me? Have a nice day all.

For lack of a place to put this I'll write it here. Has anyone else noticed that when we are told New and Improved the resulting product is worse, cheaper, scantier, flimsier, etc.? I especially notice this when I read New and Improved Website. We end up with something we can't find anything anywhere that is organized by a person on LSD.
