Rhinebeck Abuzz as Chelsea's Big Day Dawns

Upstate NY town awash in glow of first daughter's nuptials

(Newser) – It's probably just a coincidence, what with the kids probably just eloping and all, but Bill and Hillary Clinton were hanging out in Rhinebeck yesterday as wedding fever officially took over the small upstate New York town. Chelsea was nowhere in sight, but Bubba was spotted strolling through town on his way to lunch as crowds gathered and cheered, and Rhinebeck claimed the former first clan as its own: When asked by the AP what Clinton had for lunch, the restaurateur said it would be impolite to reveal.

The parents of the bride likewise put in an appearance at a hotel last night, and residents gathered to see what luminaries might show: Madeleine Albright, Vernon Jordan, and Steve Bing were among notables spotted. Meanwhile, Chelsea's wedding planner soothed neighbors inconvenienced by closed roads and traffic today with a bottle of wine—not that they seemed to mind. "I think it's great. It's a happy occasion," said one resident. "It's good publicity for the town. It's just a weekend. What's losing a weekend in the summer?"

Multimillion dollar weddings. The best argument yet for allowing the Bush tax cuts for the rich to expire.

Congratulations to Chelsea, but I have often wondered why her father, former President Bill Clinton is so popular when he is partly responsible for why it so hard for Americans to find jobs in this recession. The NAFTA "Free Trade Agreement" was a Republican idea that President Bill Clinton sold to the American people as it would "Create millions of high-paying jobs in the export industries" when what it resulted-in was the export of millions of Americans jobs to Mexico: http://patriotsforamerica.ning.com/profiles/blogs/unemployment-blues?xg_source=activity
