Obama: I'm Not Promoting the Mosque, but the Right to Build It

And yes, he's going to swim in the Gulf

(Newser) – Now that he's waded into the controversy over the Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero, President Obama today sought to clarify his position, notes Politico: “I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there,” he said. “I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That's what our country is about. And I think it's very important as difficult as some of these issues are that we stay focused on who we are as a people and what our values are all about."

The president's comments came during his quick family trip to the Florida panhandle to both promote the region's tourism and promise that the government won't abandon the Gulf, reports AP. "I'm here to tell you that our job is not finished, and we are not going anywhere until it is," he said. And in answer to the burning question (CNN roundup here) of whether he'll take a dip in the Gulf: "Absolutely," he declared. Look for it tomorrow.

Obama has time for countless vacations, playing hoops, spending billions of our tax money, defending Muslims right to build a Mosque at ground zero, but he does not have time to ask them to stop repressing Christianity in their own nations; Obama does not have time to demand the Muslim world police up its own crimes and stop the terrorism? Who is the fool, the fool or the one that follows him?
Nope, sorry.

Wow, conservatives complaining that he's getting too involved, while simultaneously complaining that he's not doing enough to stop it. What a surprise.

Has it occurred to you at ALL that it's the citizens who keep *asking* him to butt-in? It's a local zoning issue, yet up & down this page, post after post, whining like little bitches that he's not sticking his nose far enough INTO this.

You all want him to stay out of local matters, and then cry when he's not getting MORE involved. You all complain that he's wasting his time on small matters when there's unemployment, a failing economy, an oil spill and a war to be concerned with. Then you throw hissy-fits that he's not taking the time to address a **local zoning issue**.

Jesus, talk about "flip-flopping". "Smaller government! Smaller government! Now why isn't he acting like a dictator and stepping on the local government's toes to tell them what to do on a zoning issue?!" What a disingenuous bunch of hacks. PS Exactly HOW retarded do you have to be to not understand, "I don't personally think it's the sensitive, smart thing to do, but they have the legal right to do it as the law/Constitution now stands"?
