"A stinker," "a three-hour watching chore," and "a complete dud" were just some of the slams garnered by the Emmys this year as the TV awards show was widely panned around the blogosphere.

  • "It was slow and dated and every opportunity for excitement landed with a great thud," complained Brian Moylan for Gawker, with one of the most negative reviews of the night. He hated Jane Lynch's opening, the presenters' jokes, and the other musical numbers. "We'll be back again next year, hoping for more surprises and being disappointed."

  • "Apparently constructed from loose scraps of somebody else’s Emmy shows, the year’s 'biggest night in television' fell flat in writing, performance and imagination," groused Hank Stuever for the Washington Post.
  • Not everyone was so mean, however. Writing for the LA Times, Mary McNamara was more forgiving of this year's Emmys, saying Lynch and the surprise winners made for a "pleasant if not scintillating" show. "If it doesn't work every time, well, at least they tried."
