10 Dumbest Food Inventions

Sporks, wine stoppers serve no discernible purpose

(Newser) – Have you ever truly benefited from a spork? Do you face a pressing need to bake muffin tops, not actual muffins? The Daily Meal rounds up the most useless food-related inventions:

  • Quesadilla maker: Don’t you already have a pan?
  • Spork: Use a fork or use a spoon. End of story.

  • Wine stopper: Just use the cork.
  • Muffin top baking pan: The whole point of muffins is that you make the whole thing, then decide what to do with the bottom.
  • Garlic press: Turns your garlic “into mush.”

Sorry I like the Spork. Or is it a 'foon'? Either way. I thought it was a clever idea. Like the straws with the little spoon on the end to eat slushies with. Quesadilla maker? Yeah I agree with that. Like a 'S'mores maker'. Unecessary 'unitasker'. Garlic press....has its uses. Not strictly for garlic either. Let's throw 'omlette maker' in with the other unitaskers. If you have a PAN that's all you really need.

Sporks were invented for enchiritos at Taco Bell. Perfect for the task. End of debate.

Looks like the "spork" wins the popularity contest--which surprises me since I've never really used them, nor thought about their advantages. Far be it from me, however, to refute the experienced "experts." The reason why I was posting was to defend the garlic press. The writer says it turns garlic into "mush." Helloooo! That's the whole idea! The alternative is to buy it "pre-mushed" in jars--or spend 10 minutes slicing each bulb with a paring knife--and that's a real drag!
