(Newser) – Mexico today made the latest grisly discovery in its drug war: 49 bodies, some of which were mutilated, were dumped along a highway connecting the northern city of Monterrey with the US border, reports the AP. The 43 men and six women were found early this morning in the town of San Juan; officials have the road blocked off and are still investigating.

Two things drive this insanity. Drug profits and revenge killing. The US can cut the cartel profits easily by decriminalizing cannabis. The revenge killings will recede with the cash flow drop. How much of this is fomented by the DEA and their mercenary proxies? More than Americans are willing to admit.

It may be time for a vigilante movement in Mexico to force the governments hand in to action.
