(Newser) – Joe Biden, rushing to the defense of Hillary Clinton yesterday, delighted the opposition (not to mention Hillary diehards) by saying she might have been a better VP pick for Obama than he was. It started when a man at a New Hampshire rally said he was glad Biden had been chosen over Clinton. “Not because she’s a woman,” the man said, “but because, look at the things she did in the past.”
Biden would have none of it. “Make no mistake,” he said. “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am." Never one to know when to stop, he added deferentially, "Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me.” McCain’s campaign jumped at the statement. “Barack Obama’s most important decision of this election, and Biden … suggests himself, that he wasn’t the right man for the job.”
