An accused killer jumped up and stabbed the judge presiding over his trial before a detective shot him dead in a California courtroom, Recordnet.com reports. David Paradiso was on trial for the stabbing death of his girlfriend. After the judge called for a recess, he attacked her “with an unknown cutting weapon,” police said, slicing her left arm. Paradiso, 29, was shot in the head three times.

Judge Cinda Fox said "I'm fine, I'm fine” as she was carried from the court. Paradiso’s mother said she’d tried to warn officials that her son seemed unstable; weeks before, she said, she had told them he had a weapon. “If they would have listened to him, this wouldn't have happened,” she said, noting that she was “pretty sure” being shot was “what David wanted.” An alternate juror was also carried from the courthouse with unspecified injuries.
