Obama: You Can Keep Your Honeymoon

Prez says he's not losing sleep over harsh NYT column

(Newser) – "I never understood this concept of honeymoon," President Obama told Katie Couric yesterday when the CBS interviewer asked about his sliding poll numbers. Obama said he wasn't too worried about a New York Times column from David Brooks saying he has fallen into step behind Nancy Pelosi on a Democratic "liberal suicide march."

"I don't spend a lot of time reading columns, Katie," he said. "Reforming this town, and working through these problems that have been unattended to for decades—that's not an overnight process. It certainly doesn't get completed in six months. But ultimately, the report card that I'll be interested in is after we've seen the work of this year, and into next year, and we start seeing some of these plans bear fruit."

As long as the economy is still shedding jobs, and people don't feel confident about a recovery, then I think there's going to continue to be frustration. And rightfully so.

From the column covered in the article summarized by newser: "They have their own cherry-picking pollsters...". He then goes on to "cherry-pick his poll: "A Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday confirms what other polls have found." He doesn't contradict himself, he just does the same thing he's complaining about, and to that I say STFU.

your assessment seems more indicative of your ability to understand than his ability to explain. his op-ed piece lamented the fact that Dem leaders are letting their decisions be corrupted by private interest, and that it was the same thing that happened to Republicans when they had power. How is this an idea that is hard to understand? The evidence is everywhere. Plus Brooks has in the past months made arguments for Healthcare reform and climate change legislation. In each of those arguments he's advocated many of the administration's policies. And he's been complimentary to Obama in the process.
